Kunzite is a gemstone celebrated for its deep pink color. The stone was named after Dr. George F. Kunz, the celebrated mineralogist. Kunz was reported in 1905 to say of Kunzite "These crystals are extraordinary objects to the eye of the mineralogist; to see that spodumenes of characteristic form, as large as a man's hand, but with bright luster and perfect transparency, and of the rich, delicate pink, amethystine tint, is a novel and unlooked for experience. No such spodumene crystals have ever before been found anywhere."

When the gem was first found, it was limited to the Pala kunzite mine in San Diego County, California - however since then many other sources have been discovered and the gem is now found in at least 66 locations worldwide.

Kunzite is often partnered with white gold by jewellers - however there are also examples of Kunzite jewelry in silver, rose gold and yellow gold.
